Talking About Cancer in the Workplace:

After a lengthy leave of absence from the workplace, you will no doubt be questioned about your illness by your colleagues. Think about this before you go back to work. Some people choose to be completely open about their cancer and what they’ve been through. Others prefer not to talk about it, or keep answers to a minimum. Consider also whether you wish to inform your colleagues yourself once you’re back in the workplace, or if in fact you’d prefer that your boss break the news to them in advance of your return so that other people are also prepared for the change.

By planning how you will talk about cancer in the workplace you will be better equipped to deal with the situation if questioned. Keep in mind that some colleagues may not know how to talk to you about your cancer experience. However most are likely to be highly sympathetic and want to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
